What Is Placenta Encapsulation?

Placenta encapsulation is transforming a fresh placenta into a shelf stable supplement through dehydration and encapsulation. What I basically do is: take a fresh placenta and rinse it thoroughly, remove the amniotic sac and cord, slice the placenta into thin strips and dehydrate them (this can take anywhere from 16-24 hours), grind the dehydrated strips until they are fine powder and then encapsulate the powder into capsules.

What's In The Placenta?
  • Gonadotropin: the precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
  • Prolactin: promotes lactation.
  • Oxytocin: for pain and bonding; produced during breastfeeding to facilitate bonding of mother and infant.
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone: boosts energy and helps recovery from stressful events.
  • Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores.
  • Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infections.
  • Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory.
  • Hemoglobin: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition.
  • Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: stops bleeding and enhances wound healing.
  • Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections.
  • Human Placental Lactogen (HPL): stimulates mammary gland function and milk production
  • Placental Opioid-Enhancing Factor (POEF): Stimulates the production of your body’s natural opioids, including endorphins, reduces pain, increases well-being.

Placenta Services

Sarah offers two different methods for encapsulation:
HIGH YIELD METHOD: this is the most popular option and will give you the most amount of capsules. The dehydration temperature is 115 degrees and it takes 18-24 hours to dehydrate. This method retains the most iron and clients often report a bigger energy boost. This option is only available within the first 48 hours postpartum and is contraindicated if there are signs of infection in the mother. This method is also sometimes called the RAW foods method.

BALANCED METHOD: this method won’t get you quite as many capsules as the high yields method but is still a great choice. The placenta dehydrates at 160 degrees and takes 12-18 hours to dehydrate. Clients who choose this method report a good balance of energy and mood. This method provides more protection against bacteria because of the high heat.

Sarah offers clear vegetarian capsules as well as orange, strawberry, berry and bubblegum flavored capsules!

Sarah provides a complimentary photo of your placenta, a placenta print and dried cord keepsake upon your request!

PLACENTA TINCTURE: A placenta tincture is made from a couple of thumb nail sized pieces of the raw placenta, steeping in alcohol (I use 100 proof vodka) making a strong remedy over 6 weeks. It is said that placenta tincture is used for emotional, mental and psychological instability and may also be very beneficial for treating PMS and menopause. It needs to be kept in a cool dark place and will last indefinitely! I will supply you with an 8 oz bottle containing the tincture along with a small dropper bottle for dispensing. You can put the drops under your tongue or you can put a few drops in water or juice and drink it if you prefer.
