Birth Doula Services

Before Labor

Young coupleI will meet with you and your partner once or twice before labor to become acquainted (in addition to our initial consultation), to explore and discuss your priorities and visions for your birth as well as any fears or concerns, to discuss your personal birth plan and help you create one if needed as well as discuss many different topics pertaining to labor and birth and presenting you with information. We may also decide on other meetings and will certainly want to remain in touch by telephone, texting or email throughout your pregnancy.

When You Are In Labor

© Sarah Osborne Tacoma DoulaI prefer that you call me when you think you are in labor, even if you do not yet need me. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. We will decide if I should come right then or wait for further change. I am happy to come to your home before you head to the hospital or birth center if you’d like to labor at home for a while prior to leaving for your birth destination. I will remain with you throughout your entire labor and birth.

I offer complimentary labor, birth & newborn photography while I am there as your doula. Of course, my role is to be your doula first, but I love to “catch memories” and will strive to document your birth story through photos. I will deliver your edited photos to you via an online gallery within three weeks postpartum, usually around 25-50 images.

After Delivery

DPP_0152I will remain with you for approximately one to two hours after birth, until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. I can also help with initial breastfeeding.

I would like to visit you about a week or two after delivery for a postpartum visit to see how you and your baby are doing and to review your birth experience.  I can offer additional breastfeeding help, answer any questions you might have, show you my burping and swaddling techniques and offer resources at this time. I would also love to admire your beautiful new baby!

I offer complimentary 24/7 email, phone and text support until your baby is 3 months old.

Fees: My fee for birth doula service is $1600. I ask for the first portion of $800 as a retainer fee upon hiring and the remaining balance of $800 is due by your due date. I am happy to discuss payment plans or create a different payment structure if needed. For your convenience, I accept cash, check or credit cards. I also accept most HSA and FSA accounts.

I offer the following discounts:

Active Military: $150 {$1450 for doula services}

Repeat Customers: $400 {$1200 for doula services}

In hiring a doula, you understand that she is not medically trained and does not guarantee any specific birth outcome.
